Flooded I-5 could open one lane tonight
It alleged that some of the center's 4,200 monkeys suffered needlessly at the hands of center personnel. The complaint was based on the observations of an undercover investigator for PETA, who took a job as a monkey handler at the center from April to July. PETA accused the center of violating eight provisions of the federal Animal Welfare Act, including failing to prevent monkeys from suffering trauma, behavioral stress, physical harm and unnecessary discomfort. The group also accused the center of failing to provide timely or effective veterinary care to monkeys suffering from chronic vomiting, kidney stones and other ailments. On Tuesday, Michael Conn, the acting head of the center's animal services division, said he thought reasonable people would take the word of USDA inspectors over unnamed animal-rights activists.
HOW NANTICOKE GENERATES POWER
NANTICOKE, Ont.–How power is generated hasn't changed much since Thomas Edison invented the coal-fired electricity plant more than a century ago. "We release the heat from coal to boil water to spin a turbine to generate electricity," says Nanticoke plant manager Frank Chiarotto, who's spent his entire 33-year career tinkering in coal plants. But understanding the concept and seeing it in action are two different things. (View a .pdf graphic of the fossil plant process.) This cold morning, a 200-metre-long ship arrives at Nanticoke, weighed down with a "small" 30,000-tonne cargo of coal that will take eight hours to unload. A "large" shipment is double that. During peak season, when the weather is hot and air conditioners across southern Ontario are humming, Nanticoke sucks back one shipment a day.
About 200 meet to discuss DeKalb schools
The capacity situation is dire, said four DeKalb High School seniors who attended the meeting and sat quietly near the front of the theater."At certain choke points in the hallways, movement literally stops," 17-year-old Adam Pourahmadi said. "You have to wait in line just to walk to class."His friend Kevin Smith discussed the need for referendum money to provide for students after him."I know I'm graduating and I'm not going to be here," he said. "But I think it's important that we get the space. I don't want to just pass on the problems to students coming in."The four representatives on stage patiently fielded questions Monday from many residents in opposition to the referendum."One thing we want to ensure with this referendum is that we don't have a single question unanswered," Barnes said.
ADAC continues to set standard for industry
Most interior product lines are either represented in an ADAC showroom or have their own space there. For instance, international fabric companies Brunschwig & Fils, Duralee and Clarence House all have ADAC space. Showrooms include high-end furniture and antiques, rugs and floor coverings, kitchen design and equipment, lighting and lamps and virtually any item one finds in residential or commercial space. Additionally, local design luminaries such as Jerry Pair, Dorothy H. Travis and Leslie Holland have their own showrooms. While Atlanta is home to other design venues, such as Miami Circle, ADAC "helped establish Atlanta as a design center," said Savannah School of Art and Design-Atlanta interior design professor Liset Robinson. "As Atlanta grows, it's becoming a hub for interior design, and ADAC is certainly a part of that." Some professionals assert that ADAC is paramount nationally as a design destination.
Adjusting to a land their people once fled
He used to go to her house to gamble with her father and uncles. After a few months of flirting, he had his parents in the United States call her parents in Phnom Penh to ask for her hand. "I know the traditions," Bun said. "They accepted me." A neighbor asked Oeur Chomnan's mother why on earth she would let her daughter marry such a man. "I told my mom, 'Ignore them. Nobody is perfect,' " Oeur Chomnan said through a translator. She likes that Bun is not like other Khmer men. "He meets a rich and powerful guy, he never bows down," she said. "He doesn't care. I like that. I don't like a coward." Indeed, Bun's and Mel's clash with the country's Buddhist ethos could not have been more severe. For Bill Herod, an American minister who has been working with the returnees since the first group arrived, Bun's Yamaha dirt bike is a symbol of their unwillingness to adapt to Cambodian society.
Movie Talk
Well, there's a cameo at the end from Vin Diesel. And, I mean, that's the least he can do, since the original "Fast and the Furious" launched the career he managed to deep-six in record time. Turning up in this sequel feels like Vin's way of saying, "Please forgive me for 'The Chronicles of Riddick' and 'A Man Apart' and 'xXx' and 'The Pacifier,' and especially for wearing a dead cat on my head and trying to 'act' in that courtroom flick Find Me Guilty'" — am I right? There is something about Kalawati...
Primarily it was the brief. I was told that the character they wanted to portray was that of respected Hollywoods star Tom Cruise, from the movie A Few Good Men. The role was macho yet not anti-feminist, held positive perception and plus challenging as it was of a lawyer.A very feminist storyline, yet Sati does justice to your character in every episode. Agree or disagree? A little bit of both actually. I would never want over exposure that would lead to the dilution of the meaning of the serial. The story has substance and the flow needs to be consistent. Too much of me or too much of them would lead to fluctuating peaks in the serial, which might lead to confusion or loss of interest amongst the audience. All I try to deliver is satisfying involvement at all times. But that doesnt mean my character is wasted or unimportant.
