Double X was born on this date in 1907 in Sudlersville, MD. Foxx was considered to be the best right handed hitter ever, and one of the games most feared sluggers. Lefty Gomez once said of Foxx Hes got muscles in his hair! He was sought out by both the Yankees and As, and ultimately signed with Connie Macks club. He made his debut with the As in 1925 at the age of 17. His breakout year was in 1929 when he hit .354 and 33 home runs. He was back to back MVP in 1932 and 1933, winning the Triple Crown in 1933. With the Great Depression on full swing, Connie Mack had to sell Foxxs contract in 1936 to the Boston Red Sox for $150,000. Foxx had four incredible seasons with the Sox. In 1937 Foxx hit a ball into the third deck of the left-field stands at Yankee Stadium in, a very rare feat because of the distance and the angle of the stands.

Rising diesel costs could put TriMet in a bind

Rising diesel costs could force TriMet to dig deep into its reserve funds and possibly increase fares.

TriMet's board of directors approved a plan to deal with increasing fuel costs Wednesday morning that includes using at least $1.5 million of its contingency fund and, as a last resort, raising fares for the fourth time in three years.

So far a fare increase is just a possibility, said Peggy LaPoint, TriMet spokeswoman, and no amount has been determined. The board's plan would use contingency funds first, then increase fares if fuel costs continued to go up, she said.

This is the second time in two years that TriMet has taken steps to deal with rising fuel costs. In October 2005 the agency adopted its first "corrective action plan" to cover a $4.5 million budget shortfall due to increasing diesel prices.

Collins quits Hibs 'after spending plea rebuffed'

And, no, he can't be Scotland manager. Can he?There is no way in the world we'll be successful if he's going to bring in his "pass at all costs" approach to the national team. We ain't good enough to take that approach, the big nations would have a field day! .

Alabama station drops broadcast of 60 Minutes expose on political ...

I contacted CBS News in New York and was told that 'there is no delicate way to put this: the WHNT claim is not true. There were no transmission difficulties. The problems were peculiar to Channel 19, which had the signal and had functioning transmitters.' I was told that the decision to blacken screens across Northern Alabama 'could only have been an editorial call.'"

WHNT, Channel 19 of Huntsville, Alabama, issued a press release shortly after the broadcast.

We apologize that you missed the first segment of 60 Minutes tonight featuring "The Prosecution of Don Siegelman."

It was a techincal (sic) problem with CBS out of New York. We are working (click to read rest) with them right now to see if we can re-broadcast the segment.

Please be patient with us during this time.
