| Biking becoming big in Blacksburg
It's OK to use this as an excuse to snuggle up to strangers on the Blacksburg Transit and blast the car heat on the commute to campus and around town. However, with spring in the near future, some are embracing the thriving biking scene in Blacksburg. "People don't realize how easy it is to get on a bike," said Yusef Messallam, senior electrical engineering major and founder of the Blacksburg Bicycle Cooperative. "You can do your grocery shopping, commute to work or to school, anything really." A recent push for Americans to reduce their ecological footprint has led many to pull out their bikes and commute. According to the Energy Information Administration, about 28 percent of energy Americans use goes into transportation, and biking instead of commuting is a step toward going green.

Tarsands 'most destructive project on Earth': report
I'm not chanting "the end is nigh", but maybe the change we're seeing is inevitable, even if we stopped everything and climbed back into that cave. Just a thought. As for the Tarsands question? I stand by my previous answer, there is too much money on the line for any significant change in attitudes regardless of what party is in power. .
Ghana 2-1 Guinea
The weight of delivering the hopes of a nation seemed to burden Ghana, who started the match in scrappy fashion. Asamoah Gyan had the best early chance, having been played in by Muntari on six minutes before shooting wide from 15 yards. Gyan then found himself with another opportunity within 20 seconds thanks to a poor goal-kick from Guinea goalkeeper Kemoko Camara. .
Vandal spreads tacks to scupper cyclists on Beach Rd
AN anti-cyclist vandal who scattered road tacks in the path of bike riders could have killed someone, police say. Officers today blasted the offender, saying only luck saved a rider from injury or death. A large number of tacks, similar to drawing pins, were deliberately placed along Beach Rd in Mentone on Saturday and caused punctures to several cyclists' tyres. Sen-Sgt Hans Harms, of the Kingston Traffic Management Unit, condemned the act of stupidity and accused the offender of derailing bids to ease tensions between drivers and cyclists. Sen-Sgt Harms said a cyclist could have lost control and swerved into vehicles or other riders. "This stupid act does not assist anyone. "I, along with other organisations such as the Amy Gillett Foundation, are trying to work together with bicycle riders to ensure all road users are safe including vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists.

Ritchey recalls crankarms, post
SAN CARLOS, Calif. - Jan. 28, 2008 - Ritchey Design today announced a voluntary recall of a limited number of WCS and PRO model non-drive side crank arms (left arm) and the WCS carbon one-bolt seatposts due to potential safety issues. Left Arm WCS and Pro Model Cranksets Affected WCS and Pro crank arms have a forged channel running the length of the outward facing portion of the arm. Due to an out of specification forging at the deepest part of the channel, a crack may slowly form near the midpoint of the left arm. If a crank arm breaks or cracks during cycling, the cyclist may lose control of the bicycle, which could lead to serious injury. "We have produced the WCS and Pro cranksets since 2003," said Steve Parke, general manager and vice president of marketing for Ritchey Design.
