(Jan. 12) – Phillip Zeigler, judge of the 52nd District Court in Gatesville, will complete his 26th year of public service in January and hang up his robe.

Zeigler, the senior Democrat in Coryell County, began his career as district attorney and ascended to the bench behind the late Bob Cummings. He has held the bench for 18 years.

Zeigler told News 10 in a prepared statement that he has decided not to seek another term when his current one expires in December.

He stated he has discussed the decision with his family and already has informed his staff and attorneys who practice in his court of his retirement.

A U.S. Navy veteran, Zeigler is a Gatesville native. He graduated from Gatesville High School in 1963 and completed law school at the University of Texas in 1972.

OC Council in huff over grant center

The panel winds up giving the project less money for a shorter time than requested.

Oil City Council got its collective dander up about a proposed grant resource center pegged for the Franklin Library at a work session Monday and voted to provide less money for a shorter time than what the center organizers had envisioned.

"My concern was that Oil City was not brought in at the very beginning and we were informed pretty much after everything was decided," sniffed Mayor Sonja Hawkins.

Her comments related to a request for $2,000 each year for five years to help fund the newly established Venango County Grant Resource Center.

The group, which will be headquartered at the Franklin Library, aims to assist non-profit agencies and municipalities in applying for federal, state and charitable trust monies.

So far a total of $10,000 has been collected; $5,000 from Progenics Cord Blood Cryobank, $4,000 from the Chinese Chamber of Commerce (East Toronto) and $1,000 from the Toronto Alliance Church. “We are very fortunate to be able to establish a bank account through Scotiabank. Chow added that politicians are looking at banning handguns, creating youth employment programs and putting more cops on the street but that “in the meantime, let's work to make sure Mr.

Giants take hard road to SB XLII

So in a weird kind of way, it seemed fitting that the Giants gained just 5 yards on three plays and had to call again upon Tynes, who had missed a 36-yarder at the end of regulation. His 47-yard field goal sailed true, and Tynes raced off the field as if he couldn't get to Glendale for Super Bowl XLII fast enough. "I just wanted to get out of the cold," he said. When asked about the final minutes of regulation and overtime, a wry smile crossed Manning's face. "I think we like to make things exciting on this team, and it's another example," Manning said after the Giants 23-20 victory. "We don't like to win the easy way on a short field goal. We like to hit the long one to win it." The Giants took an improbable path to Super Bowl XLII. If the Patriots (18-0) took the interstate, the Giants took a few Forest Service roads.

Making it in the global arena

If a buyer needs something that a seller has, I would see very, very few impediments that would prevent them from consummating the transaction." A big world seems small SupplyCore's decision to go global put it on Inc. magazine's list of the 500 fastest-growing companies in the U.S. Not just once, but five years in a row. The Rockford company handles supply-chain management for U.S. military bases in Japan, Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan and Europe. It has its own facilities in Japan, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. "The world is not that big a place," Hahn said. "Our largest customer is the U.S. government, and they do cover the globe. We still have a military presence in Cypress. We're all over." U.S. personnel living and serving abroad have a built-in demand for American products, such as power tools, building materials and equipment parts, Hahn said.

U.S. Airstrikes In Iraq Hit Al Qaeda 'Safe Havens'

It's the Third Infantry Division's assault against al Qaeda targets south of Baghdad, part of a nationwide U.S. offensive that began this week, Strassmann reports. The mighty barrage - recalling the Pentagon's "shock and awe" raids during the 2003 invasion - appeared to mark a significant escalation in a countrywide offensive launched this week to try to cripple remaining insurgent strongholds. But it also fits into the endgame strategy of last year's U.S. troop buildup, which seeks to regain control of Baghdad and surrounding areas as a buffer zone for the capital. U.S. commanders are now attempting to subdue the last insurgent footholds around Baghdad before the Pentagon faces a possible reduction in troop strength. Hours after the massive bombs fell, U.S. soldiers set foot in tough terrain outside Baghdad, an area where they haven't gone in a year.
