| Shannon Matthews, Madeleine McCann And Haut De La Garenne
A man helping in the search for missing schoolgirl Shannon Matthews is believed to have been crucified outside his house just yards from the nine-year-old's family home. Police are investigating the alleged assault of a 43-year-old man who neighbours claim was nailed to a wooden cross through his hands on Sunday night, and some locals claim the attack is related to the hunt for the missing girl. And the McCanns? Meanwhile, the McCanns, whose daughter Madeleine disappeared from their holiday apartment in the Algarve last May, have pledged their support to Shannon's parents. Writing in his personal online blog, Gerry McCann, said he and his wife Kate were praying for her safe return. "No matter what has happened to Shannon, there is no doubt she is extremely vulnerable," he added.
UMAPAGAN AMPIKAIPAKAN: Why the guy with an Afro is a winner
THERE is this Kennedy campaign advertisement from 1960. It's got this catchy jingle that I just can't seem to shake off. You know what it's like, when a song suddenly slips into your senses, playing in an infinite loop, over and over again. It plays for so long that you believe it to be more than just happenstance. There must be a reason for this trespassing tune. And so you begin to draw all kinds of connections and conclusions. This is what has happened to me. Now if newsprint were music, I'd sing for you, but you're just going to have to use your imagination, as it goes a little something like this: "Kennedy, Kennedy, Kennedy, Kennedy, Kennedy, Kennedy, Ken-ned-dy for me! Do you want a man for president who's seasoned through and through, but not so doggone seasoned that he won't try something new? A man who's old enough to know.

Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger has declared a state of emergency in seven counties, and fire-fighters don't expect to be able to extinguish the raging blaze until Tuesday (23.10.07) or Wednesday (24.10.07). Malibu resident Jim Palmer, 61, said: "I looked up towards the canyon and everything was just red - it was absolutely terrifying." .
Hillary seeks Rx for campaign
In the last few debates I always seem to get the first question and I don't mind," Clinton said. "If anybody saw 'Saturday Night Live,' maybe we should ask Barack if he's comfortable and if he needs another pillow." Obama said 95 percent of his health care plan was similar to Clinton's. The difference is that Clinton's plan mandates everyone get coverage, but Obama's only requires that parents provide coverage for their children. Obama said his plan makes health care affordable for anyone who wants it. "I have endured repeated negative mail from Sen. Clinton suggesting that I want to leave 15 million people out," Obama said. "We haven't whined about it because I understand that's the nature of these campaigns." Clinton said her experience positions her better than Obama to debate Republican Sen.
Clinton campaign starts 5-point attack on Obama
I don't want it to become a situation where the candidates lose supporters if one or the other don't get the nomination. Because, I'm a democrat and I believe we should work together to win the race against the republican candidates. I understand there are differences in the candidates and that's why we must vote, but don't let a loss of one candidate prevent giving the support to the winning democratic candidate because it's only going to hurt us, the democrats. I support Obama's call for change and believe in him. I have news of Hillary's financial irresponsibility and don't think she'd make a great leader due to the fact that we need someone who in financially stable. There are many other reasons why I feel that Barack Obama is a better candidate. Nevertheless, we as democrats need to vote to help choose the best democrat for President.
Toll road rejected
Orange Mayor and Orange County Transit Authority board member Carolyn Cavecche said the toll road would by itself siphon 50,000 cars a day off of I-5.Officials rejected an alternative that would entail widening I-5 in south Orange County, saying it wouldn't help enough, there is no money for it and it would require knocking out 1,200 homes and businesses.Thomas Margro, Foothill/Eastern's chief executive officer, said, "This project is the best option for relieving traffic congestion with the least amount of impact on communities and the environment."That point was vigorously disputed by environmental groups, surfers and other opponents. And they contended that a more effective cure to I-5's ills would be to improve I-5 itself. The Endangered Habitats League hired an East Coast consultant to study the I-5 alternative, and the result was an option that would require only 60 properties. Also in considerable dispute was the amount of damage to sensitive lands that would occur.
Virtuoso's trip destroys priceless Stradivarius
As a former child prodigy blessed with chiselled good looks, they called him the David Beckham of the classical violin. Now he is more likely to be known as the lad with the broken Strad. David Garrett, 26, one of the nation's foremost young concert performers, had an accident that every world-class musician must dread: at the end of a concert at the Barbican he tripped and landed on his violin. The instrument is a 290-year-old Stradivarius, so rare that it would be almost impossible to estimate its value. Certainly there are people who would have gladly paid hundreds of thousands of pounds for it, before its glamorous owner did a turn as Mr Bean. Now he has a badly damaged violin that will be out of use for at least eight months, and may never sound the same again.
King's dream alive 40 years later
Elementary School, recalling the 1955 Montgomery, Ala. bus boycott that marked the beginning of the civil rights era. Edwards did not write the words he spoke -- they belonged to King. But, the passion he called upon to recite them made it clear that the youth understood the spirit and intent of the civil rights leader's message. About 150 students enrolled in Muskegon Heights Public Schools took turns using song, dance and acting skills to re-enact pivotal moments in King's life. The students performed in front of an audience of nearly 750 who gathered Sunday evening at the Waters Performing Arts Center at Muskegon Heights High School. High school seniors Jasmine Muhammad and Brittany Holmes told the audience that the event was designed to celebrate King's legacy and, hopefully, inspire others to continue fighting for equality and justice for all.
