For the concept to work, it is crucial that the wind turbines be light, requiring further technological development.

This floating wind turbine demonstration project will require about $23 million to complete [6]. The comparative unit cost is about $7.7 million per MW installed. Hydro’s future goal for large offshore floating windfarms is far in the future, "but if we’re to succeed in 10 to 15 years, we have to start the work today," said Alexandra Bech Gjørv, Hydro’s director of new energy forms.

General Electric, in addition to manufacturing the 3.6 MW turbines slated for the Cape Wind project, has embarked on a multi-year research effort to design a 7 MW far offshore unit. The U.S. Department of Energy has signed a $27 million contract with GE for this development.

Chelsea stumps for Mom at YSU

Politicians talk about the wonderful things they are going to do for people, Mastro said. After hearing Chelsea Clinton, Mastro said it appears her mother ‘‘has a more developed idea of how to actually deliver on her promises.'' Still Mastro said, she planned to watch Tuesday's debate between the two candidates before making up her mind. In a brief introduction, Clinton stated her ‘‘passionate'' support for her mother and said, ‘‘I'm here to talk to you about whatever is important to you to think about who to support on March 4.'' Questions ranged from issues such as health care and free trade — which have been flash points between the two candidates — to what can be done to give Youngstown students a chance to stay home and have good careers. Clinton talked about her mother's plans to stop tax loopholes for companies that outsource jobs, creating programs that would create jobs that can't be outsourced by rebuilding the country's infrastructure, and creating green-collar jobs by erecting environmentally friendly buildings or retrofitting existing structures.

"The Great Debaters" was named top film, while acting prizes went to its stars Washington, Jurnee Smollett and teenager Denzel Whitaker. Washington also directed the film, based on the real-life victories of a black debating team in the 1930s.

"I'll be at that other show next week, but my heart is here," said Washington, who is a presenter at the Feb. 24 Academy Awards. "I'm just so happy to see these young people get recognized."

Stage 4 - Wednesday, July 9: Joinville - Saint-Dizier, TTT, 69 km

On the first day of summer heat in the 2003 Centenary Tour De France, Lance Armstrong and his USPS-Berry Floor squad blazed across the French countryside to a decisive win in Stage 4's team time test. It was a long sought after win for Lance & Co., not just for the four years since Armstrong has dominated the Tour De France. In fact, Lance has wanted this team win for almost a decade. Today, he and his eight teammates got their first ever team time trial victory and as an added bonus, Colombian Victor Hugo Pea, Armstrong's loyal teammate from Bogota (who lives in Piedecuesta), became the first ever rider to wear the Maillot Jaune from the bicycle mad nation of Colombia.

Tomorrow it's Pea's 29th birthday and he'll be awarded his weight in Champagne and then take the start wearing the golden tunic of Tour De France leadership.

After 63 Years of Marriage the Davises Offer Their Secrets

Marjory and Richard "Dick" Davis have beat the odds and then some, specifically; the marriage odds. This lovely Bristol Mills couple has been married and devoted to each other for 63 years, having celebrated their landmark anniversary on Jan. 30.

What's their secret to a long and happy marriage? "Keep out of your wife's hair," said Dick with a huge smile. "Respect and consideration," countered Marjory.

According to U.S. statistics, the divorce rate is dropping, but the average first marriage lasts only about seven years, and only about five percent of couples even reach the 50-year anniversary mark; fewer still are together after 63 years.

The lively Davis couple lives in a beautiful circa 1760 antique cape, made cozy and warm by a center chimney wood stove.
