Pizza of the Week: Pizzeria Picco

Bruce Hill wasn't interested in pizza until he took over the Larkspur space next to his restaurant. He decided it would make a perfect pizza place, and became obsessed with finding the best. His research culminated in what I think is one of Bay Area's top wood-fired, thin-crust pizzas.

Because of the location and the constant parade of bike riders, all the pies are named after bicycles. The stylish interior is dominated by the wood oven and wine on the back wall that's available for retail sale. Whatever you do, don't pass up the soft-serve ice cream for dessert: It's drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with sea salt.

Style: Neapolitan.

Size: About 13 inches ($9.75-$14.50).

Oven: Wood-fired oven that fires the pizza at 850-900 degrees for less than 2 minutes.

Can motorsport ever be eco-friendly?

They have adapted two Honda Hybrid cars (vehicles that combine electric and petrol power, and are thus more environmentally friendly) for use in the competitive world of rally driving. This is the first time hybrid cars have been used in a rally competition, and these vehicles – while admittedly not being the most streamlined or snazzy of rides – are optimised to compete with conventional rally cars. In doing so, they output exceptionally low emissions of CO2 and toxins, and give a level of fuel efficiency never seen before in the sport.

All of which means that if you care to don one of the white helmets that Andrews and Meeson wear to career around Millbrook's many twists and turns, it is hard initially to notice the difference between their vehicle and a normal rally car.

Teen Charged in Tenn. School Shooting

A feud between two high school students that began off campus culminated at a gym class Monday when one student shot the other twice, then handed the gun to a coach, saying, "It's over now," authorities said.

The victim, a 19-year-old senior, was in critical condition at a hospital, authorities said. The suspected shooter, 17-year-old sophomore Corneilous Cheers, was charged with attempted first-degree murder, reckless endangerment and carrying a gun on school property, said police spokeswoman Monique Martin.

The teenagers got into a confrontation off campus over the weekend or last week, police said. Investigators were trying to determine whether it was related to gang activity, Martin said.

A detention hearing was scheduled for Tuesday in juvenile court for Cheers, who did not yet have a lawyer.

The best way to see Hue, Vietnam is from La Residence Hotel and Spa

Restored for its 2005 grand re-opening, the La Residence Hotel and Spa offers a taste of history inside and out (the Vietnam War's Battle of Hue was fought nearby). There are modern amenities, including conference facilities, a business center with high-speed Internet and wireless, and a terrific restaurant, Le Parfum. National Geographic Traveler calls this one of the top three hotels in Vietnam.

Orangewood's Gendreau is Central Florida boys soccer player of year

Last weekend during a club soccer game, Alan Gendreau approached the man whose career numbers he's chasing.

"He asked me if I was nervous between my junior and senior years," said Mark Keymont, Bishop Moore's boys soccer coach, whose 144 career high-school goals between 1980 and 1982 is second only to Pine Ridge's Jason Mroczkowski's 154 goals between 1995 and 1998. "I told him not to be nervous. Just play the game, and things will fall into place."

With 136 career goals, Gendreau, a junior at Orangewood Christian, is closing in on both marks.

"Living up to expectations, it's a nerve-racking thing," Gendreau said. "Coming into a season and knowing that you could break the record, it's just kind of nerve-racking."

If Gendreau continues at the pace he was on this season, he has nothing to worry about.

Dorel rolls in with a deal for Cannondale

Dorel Industries Inc. is buying premium U.S. bicycle maker Cannondale Bicycle Corp. for between $190-million (U.S.) and $200-million, expanding its tracks into the high-performance cycling market. The acquisition will make Dorel the third-biggest player in the North American independent bicycle industry, behind Trek and Specialized, said Dorel chief financial officer Jeffrey Schwartz. .

Misadventures in Atlanta

I cannot say I was shocked, when I recently read a NY time article, that said a very high number of people in the world suffer from low self-esteem and 85 percent of people in the world are average at best and followers instead of leaders.

Think about it,if the above really exists, then how do you think each of those folks will handle their relationships?

Will they think effectively and productively or will they just spin their wheels and hope for the best?

If a man thinks less of his self, how will he treat a woman that has high self worth, despite the fact that he may be successful in his career, but failing in other areas, such as his personal life and finances?

Our experiences as children often shape our ideas, thoughts and feelings as adults.
